2024 CVFA Poster Criteria

Please read carefully. Entries will be eliminated if requirements are not followed exactly.

1.  Fee: There is no fee to enter the competition this year!

2.  Poster Entry Submission:

  • We aren’t just asking for a poster. We want a painting and a poster, so we need an artist who is both a painter and a graphic designer. This is much different from the previous year’s poster contest rules!

  • Your poster entry must be submitted as a jpg attachment at 300 dpi.

  • The poster should measure 12” wide X 18” high and be vertical (portrait) in orientation when printed.

  • Concept Explanation: Your entry must include a short paragraph that explains your poster concept as it adheres to the “White Pine” theme, described in sections 3 and 7  (below) of the 4th Annual CVFA Poster Competition.

  • If your entry meets the entry requirements and your poster is accepted for the contest, you will receive an email that will include specific contact information, a short personal biography, and other pertinent details.

  • Entries are limited to one submission per artist.

  • All poster entries become the property of the Catawba Valley Festival of the Arts (CVFA). All entries can be used for commercial purposes whether or not each entry is selected as the final winning entry. Entries will not be returned.

  • Entries must be submitted via email to getzen@anandarasa.org

3.  Poster Design & Theme:

  • Participants must be aware the poster competition has two (2) unique requirements: the entry must adhere to the “White Pine” poster theme and must include an original painting of a white pine tree in the poster art.  Why is this required?— The artist will paint a white pine tree at the new White Pine Supper Club at a special VIP event. See section 7 (below) and the White Pine Supper Club Information section on the last page to learn more.

  • The poster must include wording as “THE 4th ANNUAL CATAWBA VALLEY FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS - 2024.” Please do not add additional words to your poster unless the words contribute to the overall design concept.

  • Misspelled words or incorrect numbers will disqualify a poster entry.

  • Poster entries that include personal information, corporate information or product endorsements will be disqualified.

  • Only original artwork will be considered. Submissions will be tested with image searches to test for originality.

4.  Copyrighted Images/Subjects: Copyrighted, trademarked products, packaging, brand names and advertisements may not be used within the poster. Original signed release forms are required for persons, whether public or private citizens, who are photographed and appear on the poster. Release forms can be as simple as a paragraph stating “permission” from “subjects” with a printed list of names of the individuals appearing and signed by the individuals. If the subject is under 18 the release form must be signed by a parent or guardian. This term will be strictly enforced.

5.  Electronic Resolution and Format

  • The poster entry is to be submitted jpg format with a resolution of 300 dpi

  • The winning poster will be resubmitted at high resolution, with bleeds, suitable for reproduction print purposes.

6.  Winning Entry Selection

  • All entries will be reviewed by a diverse panel of judges who will select the finalist.

  • The final winner will receive a $250 prize and will receive recognition in press releases, social media and other marketing outlets.

  • The CVFA reserves the right to reject one or all entries for the poster contest.

7.  Additional Requirements

  • The final winner agrees to paint a white pine tree at a designated area at the new White Pine Supper Club. The white pine painting must be similar in composition, color, and proportional dimensions as the white pine tree submitted on the poster entry. Only the white pine tree will be painted on the designated area (not the other poster elements).

Dimensions of the wall area for the White Pine Painting: 63 inches tall X 48 inches wide

  • The painting process of the white pine tree will proceed as a live event as part of a celebration for the grand opening of the White Pine Supper Club. The celebration event will include VIPs, media, and guests in attendance. The date has not been set at this time but is expected to occur in late 2024 or early 2025.

  • The final winner will be asked to resubmit the winning poster entry, with any modification requested by the CVFA at a high resolution, with bleeds, suitable for reproduction print purposes.

  • The winner may also have other opportunities to incorporate their artist talent during various CVFA events and promotions.
